Newsletter – Friday 8th February 2013

Thefts from Schools:

The Police are urging schools to review their security following over 20 reports of burglary or attempted burglary across the county in the past two months.  We are asking staff, pupils, parents and neighbours to be vigilant and call the police if they see or hear anything suspicious.

Book Fair

We are holding a Children’s Book Fair in school on 5th, 6th and 7th March.  It will run from 3.15 pm to 4.30 pm on each day and also be open on 6th March (World Book Day) before school from 8.30 am to 9.00 am.  The commission we receive from sales allows us to buy much needed books for the school so please take this opportunity to buy a book for your child.

Nut Allergies

Please note that as we have children with serious nut allergies in school we do not allow any nuts or nut products in our school during term time.  Please make sure that packed lunches do not contain nuts.

Comic Relief, Friday 15th March

We are taking part in Red Nose Day this year and encouraging children to bring at least 25p (for the 25 years it has been going) in order to be able to wear something red, rather than the usual school uniform.

Information Evenings for Parents

Many thanks to the parents and volunteers who came along to our Information Evening on Reading last Tuesday.  We hope that you went away with lots of useful tips and information.  We are about to update our website with the information that was given and recommend that parents check out the following websites:

www.oxfordowl.co.uk

www.lovereading4kids.co.uk

www.lovereading4schools.co.uk

We are planning another information evening on maths and have issued a questionnaire in order to find out from parents what they would like us to include.  The questionnaire can be downloaded from the website or a copy picked up from the school office.  Please help us to get this right by letting us know your views.

Curriculum Newsletters

Information about the curriculum being studied in your child’s class has now been sent home.  This information is also included in our website – check out the Letters and Newsletters, Spring 2013 page.

South Suffolk Youth Orchestra Concert for Primary School Children

A free concert is being held for primary school children at Northgate Arts Centre, Ipswich on Friday 1 March 2013 at 6.00 p.m.  The concert will be given by the South Suffolk Youth Orchestra and will provide a wonderful opportunity for young people to hear a full symphony orchestra in a relatively informal atmosphere.  We are sure that there are children receiving instrumental tuition at our school who will be inspired and enthused by the exciting sound of a live orchestra.

The concert will last for approximately an hour and the varied and exciting programme will

include excerpts from Berlioz’s March to the Scaffold, and an arrangement of excerpts from

Schonberg’s Les Misérables.  To book tickets please contact Kim Jenkins, Suffolk County Music Service, Northgate Arts Centre, Sidegate Lane West, Ipswich IP4 3DF Tel: 01473 281866;

Email: county.musicservice@suffolk.gov.uk
