Science

Our aims

In Science at St Helen’s, we want all of our children to experience an exciting, inspiring and relevant science education built upon specific science vocabulary and concrete knowledge of these. The children at St Helen’s have access to a structured curriculum whereby they get taught through developing curiosity, practical demonstrations, understanding data and models as well as linking it to the world we live in.

During their science lessons they learn how to reason using oracy skills and language structures, problem solve and make informed decisions from what they already know.

We encourage our students to become aspiring scientists particularly in our current climate, challenging relevant and up to date news with regards to our fast changing world in all continents.

In year 2 we have looked at the importance of a healthy and balanced diet. We tried a variety of toppings, designed and tasted our pizzas.

During science week, year 6, looked in depth at forces and structures. Creating these fantastic hydraulic bridges.

During our Wildlife club, with the help of Suffolk Wild Life trust we were able to create bird feeders to hang within the church yard. It was a little fiddly but great fun to help the birds during the winter months.
